Want to start playing Lord of the Rings online.. Warden, Guardian or Ministrel?
I used to play wow, and in wow I had a melee and ranged dps and a paladin healer. I LOVED healing and I was really good at it, so I wanted to choose the healer for LOTR too but I am worried it will disappoint me with their guitar playing and fail tunes :< (Mind you, I only played till level 3 to see how it is)
I also wanted to try tanking, something I have never tried, so I tried Warden which I liked, but then I read everywhere that Guardians are the best tanks and I dont want to be some half arsed tank who no one wants in a group.. but playing a Guardian looks a bit boring with only melee pewpew..
So I played them all three up to level 3 to see, but I can't decide.... out of Warden, Guardian and Ministrel, which one should I start off with?
The Guardian class is a straightforward tank. Warden's can be extremely powerful and fill the role BUT they don't wear heavy armor and they depend on what are called gambits to truly be at their most effective. Guardian is a LOT easier to pull than Warden. If you are a perfectionist, you may want to leave Warden for when you are more experienced in the game and its mechanics.
The minstrel is a pure healing type with dps. Depending on how you build one, it will do more or less damage. The more damage you are geared to, the more healing-gimped you become. Some boast that they can heal perfectly fine with a Battle Bard (dps) build. I have yet to see one that can pull that in an end game tough instance ... and I have played a minstrel as my main since closed beta over 2 years ago so I do know what I am talking about.
Downside of guardian: low dps
Downside of warden: squishiness and complexity in learning all the gambits
Did you consider champion? They are heavy armor wearers with dps. Their main role is off-tanking. The best races are dwarf first and man second. Don't choose elf as you are new to the game and elven champs are gimped in comparison to dwarves and man.
Incidentally, playing to level 3 accomplishes nothing in terms of comparing what class would work best for you. At those baby levels all classes aren't that different from one another.
